Relieve the burden of our planet

Background and Mission

Mask has become our daily necessity since the outbreak of pandemic. According to the report from Journal of Environmental Science and Technology, the monthly global consumption of disposal masks reached the alarming figure of 129 billion1 and become a potential threat to the environment. With the aim of protecting the users’ health as well as the future of our earth, SkyPro started exploring the possibility to produce the mask with biodegradable material since mid-2020.

After series of tests and experiments, we have successfully developed a disposable mask that is composed of PLA. This mask possesses identical protection as standard surgical mask and could be decomposed over 90% in 130 days under certified experiment. This product is named as “Zero” so as to signify our emphasis and desire to bring “Zero” burden to our planet.

“Green Plastic”

Characteristics of PolyacticAcid (PLA)

Polylactic Acid (PLA), also known as “Corn Starch Resin”, possesses an innate high biodegradability due to its origin from renewable resources like corn, sugar beet, wheat and sweet potato. Starches and/or celluloses from these renewable resources can be used to produce PLA plastics after a series of sophisticated processes including fermentation, refining, dehydration, and polymerization; hence, PLA is also named as “Green Plastic”.

Traditional disposable mask is typically made from polypropylene (PP), a petroleum-refined product which requires over hundreds of years to be completely decomposed and would potentially impose serious damages to our invaluable natural environment and ecosystems. The use of PLA-made facemasks in substitution of PP-made facemasks would be the future trend with sustainable development of the planet being our top focus.

Design of Zero

Zero-Mask

Test Reports

In order to comply with the international standard, we have sent Zero to Nelson Labs for the bacterial filtration efficiency (BFE), particle filtration efficiency (PFE) and viral filtration efficiency (VFE) test. Test results revealed that Zero has attained the filtration efficiency over 99%, which means that the protection level is equivalent to that of standard surgical masks.


Also, we have sent sample to SGS for component analysis to. The result indicated that all three filtering layers of Zero are 100% PLA material and biodegradable.
